Dambisa Moyo; Jacqueline Novogratz; Peter Singer; Remembering John Hope Franklin
Wednesday 03/25/2009
In her book "Dead Aid," Dambisa Moyo critiques "aid culture," arguing that foreign aid has not created systemic economic change in Africa nor empowered African peoples to raise themselves out of poverty. Jacqueline Novogratz gives insight into the initiatives of the Acumen Fund and the ways that investing in low-income individuals can fight global poverty. Peter Singer, author of "The Life You Can Save," offers his opinion on why the developed world has not made it a priority to solve global poverty. Charlie remembers historian and scholar John Hope Franklin with an excerpt from 2005, in which Franklin reflects on his first experience of racism as a young boy in Oklahoma.
